I’m going to be totally honest here: I watched Twilight for the pretty people.

Not that the books aren’t good (they are, in a feminine-wish-fulfillment sort of way), but frankly they can get pretty cheesy at times.  Maybe it’s just me being cold-hearted again, but the stuff most girls swoon at in the book/at the cinema didn’t impress me much. I remember having a conversation with Nunu and coming to a conclusion that if some guy we barely know, no matter how hot, snuck into our room without permission just standing there watching us sleep, we would be totally creeped out and like ‘wtf get out stalker : I’ . But Edward Cullen does have his redeeming points in a realistic way. He has his own car, a cool family, and a witty sense of humor  — that’s not something most real-life boys can claim. He just comes across as really, really scary sometimes.

The acting was okay, Rob Pattinson and Kristen Stewart had believable chemistry and they pulled off the intense moments nicely. A lot of people went ‘awwwww’ at the hospital scene, which is a compliment to their acting skills I guess. But it’s a little bit annoying to me (the over the top ‘awwww’-ing, I mean). I also thought that Movie Bella was a lot more likeable than Book Bella. There are some moments that totally stole the show and made the movie for me, like the vampire baseball part and the dramatic Cullen family cafeteria entrance part. Oh and that reminds me, this movie needs more Cullens! Even when I was reading the books, I thought the rest of the family were way more interesting than Edward and Bella.

The special effects are just ehhhhh, and the sparkly sound effect didn’t help either (I laughed). The soundtrack is pretty good though, I heard the accoustic version of Decode by Paramore and Hayley’s voice sounds great there, she has insane vocal skills ♥.

But the important part is, even though my opinion after reading/watching of the books/movie is mostly lukewarm, I still went out and watched the movie enthusiastically twice, legally, at a cinema. I have no idea why. The friends I went out with the second time around didn’t know either, and I think that’s Twilight’s biggest strength. It has a certain fun, addictive quality to it…. or maybe it’s just the pretty people. (And have a youtube link for the vampire baseball scene! oh be still my heart.)
